Margarito trained by Robert Garcia is ready to fight for his life against the 7 division world boxing champ, Manny Pacman Pacquiao who is reeling from his training with coach Freddie Roach at the Wildcard Gym.
Margarito is trying to regain his diminished reputation after the controversy when an alleged hardened plaster was placed inside his gloves during his fight with Shane Mosley in 2009, which caused him to be suspended for one year.
However, Margarito still loses the fight and Mosley made him a punching bag, considering that the latter was said to be the underdog.
But with the upcoming Pacquiao-Margarito fight, the Mexican boxer is being given another chance to prove that he truly is a clean boxer.
If one would depend on the numbers alone, Margarito can immediately be declared as the winner, but can statistics predict the result of the fight?
With Margarito’s height at four and a half inches taller than Pacquiao, and a reach six inches longer, it would look easy for the former to win.
But let us not forget that Oscar dela Hoya is 5’10 ½” tall and also has a reach of 73 inches, while the whole world knows how Pacquiao won against the Golden Boy.
Meanwhile, the bigger measurements of the biceps and thighs of Antonio Margarito might convince everyone that his power punch may be stronger than that of Pacquiao, probably yes, probably no.
Just like Hall of Fame boxing trainer Freddie Roach always says, “Size in boxing does not win fights, it’s the skills”.
It is obvious that Manny Pacquiao has reached this far because of his speed and skills, which all boxing analysts have keenly observed.
And while both boxers will be fighting for the vacant WBC Junior Middleweight Championship belt, their previous records may matter somehow.
Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2) with 38 knockouts, versus Antonio Margarito (38-6-0) with 27 knockouts, tells us that Pacman has 74.5% knockouts on all of his fights, while the Mexican boxer has only 71%, slightly lower.
Having said all the above, it’s again a David and Goliath fight, speed versus size, and a million of dollars apart.
Nevertheless, millions of people around the world will stop for awhile and watch Pacquiao fight Margarito on November 13 (November 14, Manila time).
